It causes pain and stiffness in the joint, and with time it gets increasingly harder to bend the toe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How did I get this?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>History of trauma in the feet.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Faulty foot function.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>History of arthritis.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Family history is a risk factor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What can I do about it?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Rest from activities affecting the joint.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stop wearing high heeled shoes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Applying ice packs reduce inflammation for short period of time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contrast bath using alternating cold and hot water (30 seconds each for five minutes) to reduce inflammation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Short term use of anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen to reduce pain and inflammation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What help can I get for this?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>A podiatrist may provide shoe modifications, padding, or orthoics.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An orthopaedic foot surgeon may assist with removing bony lumps or fusing the joint.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When will it get better?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>It depends on severity, patient activity and expectation as well as the particular treatment used.
